Has Frank Lampard Reached Romans Abramovich's Trigger pulling stage?Author: Seanie KennaPublished 20/01/2021 Frank Lampard over recent weeks looks out of ideas and a little lost again. This was worsened with a 2-0 defeat at the King Power stadium vs Leicester, where Brendan Rodgers won his 1st game in 16 attempts vs Chelsea. Only six weeks ago Lampard’s Chelsea were top of table after an impressive 3-1 win against Leeds United. Chelsea had also been on an impressive 17 game unbeaten run which came to an end with a 1-0 defeat to Ancelotti’s Everton. Now with a run of 5 defeats in the last 8 Premier league games, Chelsea look lost on the pitch. Chelsea’s defeat at home to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge led to massive rumours relating to Lampard’s future, with reliable journalists from the Athletic UK, producing an article right after the final whistle. This article related to how unhappy the board are, after spending £220 Million in the summer on major signings like Timo Werner and Kai Havertz which they can’t seem to get the best out. It seemed the board had a meeting and wanted to be patient with Lampard and did not have a plan in place for this situation. Top Chelsea sources today, the main one being Matt Law of the Telegraph, who is rarely ever wrong when it comes to Chelsea news be it transfers or other news, has come out in recent hours stating that Frank Lampard is fighting to save his job. Chelsea’s number one target is Julien Nagelsmann of RB Leipzig according to reports. With big fixtures coming up against spurs, Atletico Madrid in Champions league and Man United at home in between the Atletico games, Chelsea’s struggles are likely to continue without a change being made at the top. When will Roman pull the trigger? He has done so on Mourinho after winning leagues, Di Matteo after Champions league, and Ancelotti after the Double win. When will it reach the point Abramovich will axe Lampard? Tuchel’s representatives have contacted Chelsea and stated he is desperate for the job, Chelsea did not contact Tuchel and have not made a decision on this. Keep in mind that before Chelsea signed Sarri, Tuchel nearly signed on the dotted line before choosing PSG. As Fabrizio Romano stated, the board are furious, but Max Allegri has not been contacted by Chelsea. Chelsea are opposed to the idea of interim manager from listening to Dan McCarthy, which makes you wonder will Lampard see out the season. The Athletic UK stated also that Chelsea would be interested in a German speaking manager which makes you wonder will that be Nagelsmann, Tuchel, Rangnick, Hassenhutl? My view on this as a Chelsea fan would be that Chelsea football club is not a job that you can “learn on the job”. Despite Lampard’s excellent performance bringing youth through during the transfer ban season where he brought through the likes of Mount, James, Tomori, Abraham, Gilmour, he has spent £220 million on top talent and has not improved the Chelsea side. His tactical mismanagement of the new players has been a factor in Chelsea’s slump. Is it time to go? Chelsea under Abramovich don’t settle for second best let alone 8th or 9th best, and with talks of Roman wanting to splash the cash again in the summer on likes of Haaland, Upamecano and Declan Rice, to get players of this ilk, Chelsea will need to be in the Champions League to get their number one targets. I think time has come to an end for Frank, unfortunately, despite being Chelsea’s greatest player, you need to separate Lampard the player and Lampard the manager. If Chelsea were to get a new Full Head Coach during the season, I would go all out to get in Brendan Rodgers who is premier league proven and worked at Chelsea before with youth set up from 2004-2008. Despite comments made about Chelsea whilst Liverpool manager, he plays fantastic football, has a great philosophy, gets the best out of players and has improved each job he has taken on since Liverpool. Otherwise, I would get in an experienced manager with knowledge of the Premier league and Champions League on an interim basis, that man being Rafa Benitez. This is then with a view to go all out for Julien Nagelsmann at the end of the season. He would be the number one choice. What do you think of Lampard’s Chelsea future?
